Recently I have fallen in love with the tooth gem trend but really want to hear what people really feel about them. For a couple of months, I have research tooth jewels to see if it could truly fit into my day to day- without negative perception. As a working professional, I grappled with the idea of it looking too unprofessional. But let’s face it COVID have given me the room to try so much I wouldn’t have tried in an office setting. I have worn braids, blonde hair, and have even tried a blue wigs for fun occasions. All without the limitation of does this fit a government employee. Building such a professional career, I treaded lightly on anything that gave the appearance of unprofessionalism, but giving the state of our country- our world I figure why not?!
Why not try those things you felt didn’t represent a certain persona. Live! Live the life that makes you happy, because life is not promised.
What are tooth gems?
Tooth jewels or tooth gems are stones, typically Swarovski crystal or gold metal; (small in diameter) that is applied to the tooth. This non invasive procedure is completely safe. Tooth gems are placed using safe dental materials, similarly to the adhesive used for braces.
The procedure takes about 15 minutes and can done in a dentist office, tattoo parlor, or even in your home. And the cost ranges based on who you select to place the tooth jewelry and the type of jewelry you decide. But could range from $40-$200 per gem. I elected to get my tooth jewel at Red Octopus Tattoo shop, because I’m familiar with the artist and love her work. Hi Ruth!
How long does the tooth gem last?
Per my research the tooth candy can last from 6 months to 2 years. However, if by chance you wanted to remove it sooner, it must be removed by your dentist.
Overall, I am literally obsessed with tooth gems! So much so I’m strongly considering an additional jewel. I’m trying not to be too obsessive so I’m giving it 6 months to see how it fair well in my daily professional life. I have quite a bit of business meetings with the development of my new company- Atwater Advocates. I would like to gauge if the gems by chance can affect my pitch, sale, and contracts.
The placement of my tooth gem is not very noticeable if we are in conversation as I chose the placement of my outer K-9 tooth. Therefore, it is only visible on occasion not on the onset of just talking with me. You can barely see it in pictures unless you zoom in. Don’t believe me check my Instagram and snapchat(desireedw5), its barely noticeable.
I find the tooth gem to be a great way to express your individuality. It allow you to do a bit of modification to your body that’s not as permanent as a tattoo or piercing. While I have no tattoos there are only so many piercings you can get that’s not visible.
So the tooth gem allow me to be a bit different without obvious body modification.
What are your thoughts on the trend tooth jewelry? Do you think it’s unprofessional? Can everyday people (not artist ) pull this look off in their day to day life? Would you try it?
