GOD I pray for all the families and communities that have had to experience the direct pain of the senseless killing of black people. I stand in solidarity with all the protesters that are marching and bringing awareness to racism.
Admittedly, I worry that we don’t have the immediate answers to resolve this systemic issue. Unfortunately shown through our ineffective attempts in the past – things similar to the rioting during Rodney King.
We have and continue to experience generational extremes of racism accompanied with the lack of accountability. Consequently, it is this, that breed outrage, fear, and frustration which have recently led to global protest, looting, and the burning of buildings alike in many cities.
If I’m honest I don’t know what the end all would be for an immediate remedy but I know the awareness speaks loudly.
“A riot is the language of the unheard.” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Be a Change Agent, be the change you want to see.
How we raise our children is vital. We must communicate the challenges in our world around racism. As a result, those children will grow up into adults to treat or mistreat a group of people.
As a rule, if you don’t know where to start, start first with all people deserve respect and dignity! How far you discuss the disadvantages people of color experience in the workforce, by police officers, and others who deem them inferior is up to you.
However, I challenge you to watch this video of Philando Castile’s daughter, a young girl, who sat in the back of a squad car with her mother after witnessing an officer shooting her dad in the same car. Tragically, Philando Castile was shot while reaching for his ID after being asked to present it. WARNING!! This video is extremely graphic and heart breaking. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHUacoxL1oQ.
In light of, nearly four years ago to the date, in the same state Minnesota we have another senseless killing of a black person George Floyd by an officer.
Black Lives Matter! Stop Racism
Even if, we don’t know the means and strategy to stop the injustice we must first start with arresting the cops that committed the crimes. All people who use their status to kill or mistreat people of color should have the same ramification of any other person committing a crime; despite their occupation. Importantly, that would certainly send a message that we don’t undervalue the lives of black people and excessive force is intolerable.
Lastly, I leave you with a point that resonated with me. Black people feel like we have to solve the problem of racism but it’s not for us to solve. Yet we are victimized by it. The conundrum of living in American as a black person.
Furthermore, until next time, be kind. Make a friend with a person of color and start listening. https://www.mytruthlieshere.com/friendships-after-30!/
