…Oh yeah and Thailand!
Thailand
I had the great privilege to travel to Phuket, Thailand for my 40th birthday.
Thailand allowed me the space to just be. It afforded me the opportunity to pray, think and self-reflect. As much as I thought this trip would be tanning and eating. It was mainly about sitting still. Listening and seek answers and yes tanning.
Thailand travel was unique from my other abroad experiences. It felt easy and stress free. You could really get into your Zen there. I wasn’t chasing a fully booked itinerary like usual. I knew the things I wanted to do and just simply made time for it. While we are were in Phuket for 5 days this truly allowed us to have leisure days.
Thailand Excursions
We visited 6 beaches, we spent a day at an elephant sanctuary (awesome experience), had a day at an incredible spa and had so many laughs and introspective reflection. It was an elevated experience. The more I travel the more I find answers about myself and what I enjoy. Sadly, the food was not all I expected. Given my restricted dietary needs, there wasn’t many opportunities to openly explore food without the high risk of cross contamination. Nonetheless, there are other great things to do. Here are a few.
- Visit the Big Buddha of Phuket. This iconic statue sits atop a hill overlooking the city and is a great way to get a unique view of the area.
- Take a boat trip to nearby islands and explore the stunning beaches and hidden coves.
- Indulge in Thai cuisine. With a variety of restaurants, street food stalls, and local eateries, you’ll find something you will enjoy.
- Enjoy a day of shopping at Central Festival Phuket or Jungceylon Shopping Mall.
- Unwind at one of the many spas and wellness centers in Phuket.
- Take a cooking class and learn how to make authentic Thai dishes.
- Go snorkeling or diving in the crystal clear waters and explore the vibrant coral reefs.
- Be aware of scams. Be wary of anyone offering free services
Traveling with my sister we laughed none stop! We took in the sites and truly took a moment to connect with Thailand and all its spiritual culture and customs.
I believe we both took a moment to seek guidance and that felt transformative. Starting my 40th birthday in this frequency has made me more aware than ever how much more l want to do. And in that I look forward to 2023 and all its upcoming adventures and milestones.
