I know it’s not easy managing all that you do …a full time job, a child(ren), your social life, their social life, a side hustle, an organized home, a healthy sex schedule, a husband/boyfriend, lover/lovers, a dog, and so on but listen chica you need a break!
Find some me time for yourself. Trust me all those things will still be there when you return. This will help you avoid depression.
As a single parent, I know well too often ALL that we do to run a household but we must make time for ourselves.
I won’t go on my high horse about “self love” and “self maintenance” because I can assure you have read enough blogs, pinterest pins, and watched countless youtube videos on the subject.
What to do if you need a break
Rather, I want to give an easy tip to on how to hit the reset button and relax, relate , release(or par-tay)! Depending on your preference let’s consider a few things.
What do you really need?
- a. A night out with the girls to let your hair down
- b. A quiet moment to yourself
- c. A getaway with your lover or your crew
Either of these options will have you back to your best self in no time.
Alternatively, I’ll spend more time on how to plan a quick getaway with your friends since I just recently did a ski trip with 11 of my closest friends.https://www.mytruthlieshere.com/friendships-after-30/
To get the break you need with less stress.
But let’s focus a bit on how to steal away the time you need away from the kiddo.
First thing first, use your resources! Allow that grandparent, sister, aunt, play date parent to baby sit for a day or two. Don’t be prideful, simply ask. Maybe even schedule your girls not out around a sleepover. If this is impossible take a day off of your full time job and opt for option B.
A day out with friends/family
However, if you opted for A or B. Here are some quick tips. Find a super swanky bar or bottomless brunch to attend. Get on group text with your friends or sisters to arrange the date and time that works best for you.
A small but noticeable pick me up for a well needed break.
Put on the cutest outfit you can find. If you are leaning toward a happy hour and need something to wear I always find the dopest chic professional wear at Ann Taylor. https://www.anntaylor.com/
Yup you heard me trust me it is no longer for the older women (or maybe I just became the older woman). I digress.
Also, Zara is a place you can find the most chic items at a reasonable price. Put on some make-up, polish your nails, throw a few curls in your hair and wah-la you are ready to have endless mimosa or margaritas on a rooftop. Have gossipy conversation with your best girlfriends and laugh a lot! https://www.mytruthlieshere.com/top-5-boozy-brunch-spots-in-dc/
*Tip : If you go to your local Nordstroms and visit the Mac counter they will professionally draw on your brows and add eye shadow for free – well if you buy a lipstick or any product. Have them do all the hard stuff and go home and put on some foundation. Just be ready to feel like a baddie Instagram Model. This is also great for date nights as well.
When you look good you feel good!
This will certainly put the pep back in your step the remaining of the week or weeks to come until you can do it all over again.
A quiet moment to yourself
If you need a quiet moment find a day you can go get your nails done or pedicure; take a book or listen to a podcast to avoid forcefully interacting with the nail tech.
Moreover, a coffee shop first thing in the morning can have great solitude. Grab a coffee, surf the internet, start a blog, read a book or take out your planner to decorate your month with colorful pens or stickers. Don’t judge – decorating your planner can be immensely therapeutic. #plannercommunity
A Quick Getaway if you need a break
Now if you have the time, plan a quick cheap getaway consider going somewhere close that you can do cheap activities such as skiing or the beach. Share the expenses for travel(gas, tolls), rental property/hotel, and food with your buddies. This will make the trip extremely cheap. Have someone oversee each task.
For instances, a food committee, someone who will handle the food, ( they will collect the budgeted amount, create a menu, and assign the chefs or lead the chefs for the weekend.
Ski and/or beach- its cheap
Recently I opted for a ski trip because I needed a break. I searched airbnb’s and VBRO for a home to rent for 12 people. We divided the weekend expenses amongst the group. The group purchased fruit, eggs, bacon for breakfast to keep things simple. We also opted for large sharable meals. Spaghetti and salad are perfect for this.
We purchase the larger bottles of alcohol to stretch the entire weekend. Skiing in Massennutten, VA made sense to us because we were only 2 hours away. We carpooled and shared the gas expense. This trip turned out to be very cheap for everyone.
Now, that you have some quick tips for how to hit the reset button if you need a break implement them a couple times throughout the year.
Above all, remember to give yourself the permission to be you. Not a mother or wife, a woman! A woman that need to shake it up a bit and do whatever that would put a smile on your face.
So give it a try! Go let your hair down and refresh your self so you can be a better you for yourself and your family.
