I absolutely dreaded discussing this on the blog but unfortunately the Coronavirus (COVID19) has really shifted the dynamics of our everyday life. I didn’t want to emphasis the magnitude of this pandemic. Simply because we are all hearing about it day to day.
The alarming conversations of rising death tolls and economic depression is bad enough, I didn’t want to be yet another sounding board for depression. But it’s here people and we need to brace ourselves for the damage its doing to us now and the aftermath to come.
Staying away from all the conversations around social distancing and self- isolation is impossible when it has become our new normal. As we approach the second month of this global pandemic, I’ll be remiss if I don’t at least broach the conversation here on the blog.
I am wholeheartedly sadden of all the cases in which resulted in the deaths of love ones. I plead with you to do all you can to protect our “at risk” population; our seniors and those with preexisting health issues.
Be sure you are staying home, washing your hands as frequent as possible and covering your nose and mouth when you must go out.
Look if you are anything like me a social butterfly (smile), you are going absolutely stir crazy in the house. Try to find ways to sooth your rambled thoughts. I have been able to find great ways to feed the urge of wanting basic civilization back into my life. But if I’m honest many of them require a little time out (appropriately social distanced).
Here are a few things to maintain your sanity during COVID19:
- Go for a walk or jog- besides it’s spring. We don’t want to miss a whole season.
- Take a long bath- a nice long bath with tea or wine can really relax you.
- Schedule a virtual happy hour with all your friends Via Zoom or Skype. Tipsy Tuesday schedule for 4/7/20. COVID19 will not stop the party.
COVID19 has really shifted the dynamics of our everyday life
- Schedule all your appointments for the upcoming months. Dermatology, allergist etc. anything that you have neglected or want to check out. I would schedule them for June/July to be safe.
- Budget- go through all your bills and really assess where you can cut cost to save more. Maybe you can take your cable bill down a little.
- Plan Stuff- being forced to stay home, i researched things I want to attend in the summer months and starting to plan them with friends. One upcoming event is La Fete du Rose’https://lafetedurose.com/dc. Ideally I can get to the Houston TX location the end of May.
- Plan a picnic for you and your lover ( grab champagne, cheese, crackers, and fruit) spend a few hours on a patch of grass taking in the beauty of our land.
- Reach out to your family and have a conversation. I’m sure they need the distraction and some human contact not just texting.
Self care is incredibly important during these challenging times.
- Reconnect with your faith- during this challenging time, see if your church offers an online worship for encouragement. Journal and read your bible.
- Update your resume and cover letter! https://www.mytruthlieshere.com/top-5-job-interviewing-tips-that-will-get-you-hired/
- Buy yourself flowers.
- Try a new recipe. This week I tried Seggiano organic linguine pasta and let me tell you! It’s delicious. Sadly, I had it twice in one weekend I made a butter, garlic, and mushroom sauce with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese with grilled lemon chicken and once with Alfredo and shrimp for my friend. It was delectable!
- Lastly, take some time to purge! Do a bit of spring cleaning. Remove any clutter old pots/dishes, clothes, papers whatever you can to lighten the load. I promise you will feel a sense of freedom.

You’ve got some really great ideas here. I love the idea of a zoom happy hour with friends. We all miss seeing our friends. I have been pushing all non emergent appointments off till at least June or July as well. Don’t want to risk exposure if we don’t have to. I wish you the best of luck and lots of good health during this time.

Honestly, I think this is the very thing people aren’t taking so seriously during this and that’s the fact that people are struggling with their mental health during all this. Thanks for bringing light to the fact that we could all use a lesson in learning to cope with the side effects of COVID-19 in terms of being completely stir-crazy from cabin fever. 🙂

maintaining mental health nowadays is so difficult but by following above mention activities we can also keep us busy and forget COVID-19 atleast for sometime.
